Downtown Pontiac Welcomes Michael Boettcher, new Downtown Manager
May 5, 2014
Downtown Pontiac and the Pontiac Downtown Business Association welcome our newest Downtown Manager, Michael Boettcher, who has signed on with the PDBA on April 28, 2014.
Marking the growth of the Pontiac Downtown Business Association as a volunteer organization driving forward progress, the PDBA membership voted on April 23 to hire it’s first Downtown Manager to continue the economic growth projects that are being undertaken in Downtown Pontiac.
Glen Konopaskie, President of the Pontiac Downtown Business Association welcomed Michael Boettcher on Monday April 28 to begin his on-boarding of current resources and projects as well as planning out his first thirty days to quickly allow Michael to take the reigns.
Konopaskie and the PDBA Board members were able to secure the position through strategic planning and aligning funds to make a part-time contract hire with the prospects to grow into position and role. Boettcher, who comes with extensive economic development background both in the City of Detroit and City of Dearborn looks forward to working within an organization setting the blueprint for private non-profit organizations taking over what were formerly city functions.
Boettcher sees the community of Downtown Pontiac with “rich history, beautiful architecture and incredible potential.” He says he is “very excited to be working here to add life and investment to one of Metro Detroit's premier downtowns.” With 17 years in urban planning, community and economic development in the region he says he is “looking forward to building on that experience to help grow Downtown Pontiac”.
Konopaskie and Boettcher are working together to make time to meet the neighbors and the community. In that manner, Boettcher says he is “working part time to begin with, but I will be around the neighborhood as much as possible, including at the upcoming Canvas Pontiac launch party and membership meeting, to meet local residents and business and property owners."
The announcement by the PDBA Board to hire Boettcher as the new Downtown Manager made immediate press along with several other movements occurring in the City. Alongside Pontiac Mayor Waterman’s innaugeral event, the opening of the new St. Joseph wing, and Downtown Pontiac’s own art initiatives with the recent DIA InsideOut program and the upcoming May 15 Canvas Pontiac.
