Pontiac Welcomes Growing non-profit

Pontiac is a Great Place to Shop

Businesses and organizations are looking at Downtown Pontiac as they grow and scale because of the opportunities the business district holds. Last year Downtown Pontiac welcomed fifteen new businesses just prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise launch. The ribbon cutting included a mix of retail and service based businesses, with some being new startups while others were existing businesses moving into new spaces.

Currently, Downtown Pontiac is home to 33 retail businesses with regular business hours and products on shelves to purchase. Additionally, many organizations and service based businesses choose Downtown to headquarter their operations.

Main Street Pontiac has:

  • 33 Retail shops in Main Street Pontiac

  • 15 new businesses were welcomed last Dream Cruise weekend

  • 6 bars/restaurants, and

  • 1 new non-profit joining the community on March 15

Welcome Career Dress

This quarter the Pontiac Downtown Business Association welcomes a new neighbor to the community. Career Dress has been in operation since 2002 and has grown out of their last home to find more space as well as main street frontage at 55 West Huron Street. Career Dress looks like a retail shop for women’s work clothing, however, it functions as a non-profit service helping thirty women each month be outfitted for careers. Career Dress’ mission includes promoting the economic independence of low/moderate income women in Southeast Michigan by providing professional attire for women seeking active employment. With partnerships with 40 different agencies, referrals for new clients come in across Southeast Michigan.

Career Dress steps in when women feel they have no clothing to wear to a job or job interview. They dress low/moderate income women actively seeking employment with donated clothing and accessories. If you'd like to support them as many merchants and corporations in the Tri-county community have done generously in the past to outfit their boutique please call (248) 481-8276. For assistance through one of their intake partners while you look for job assistance email them at info@careerdress.org.
