Driving through a city, you take a look at the houses, sidewalks, and roads, and then suddenly you drive through Downtown. What's going on, who's walking around, what's in the windows? Downtowns are a city's front porch.
Downtown Pontiac serves as the Front Porch for not only the City of Pontiac but many neighboring communities without the resources available of a downtown district. In March, three neighborhood districts joined downtown Pontiac to hear about upcoming events and initiatives and to help get involved. At the same time Downtown Pontiac's executive director, Glen Konopaskie, has been visiting neighborhood districts to open communication channels to ensure that initiatives taken on are done so with the voice of the city's residents as well as local business owners, and our neighboring communities.
When was the last time you had a chance to see Downtown Pontiac?
You've heard a lot over the past two years about several buildings being purchased, and investment. Now some of those activities are resulting in new shops and businesses opening their doors.
All in all, there are currently 33 retail shops open inside the Downtown loop. These retail shops maintain regular hours, products on their shelves to purchase, and helpful cashiers to help you. There are your boutique stores as well as specialty stores such as paint stores - so something for everyone.
15 new businesses were welcomed last summer
Just before the excitement of Dream Cruise, Downtown Pontiac welcomed 15 new businesses to the neighborhood with great fanfare. This year on March 15 Career Dress opens its' doors with a Ribbon Cutting for the community with three more Ribbon cuttings planned throughout the year for other new businesses.
