Throughout the year use the hashtag #LOVEPontiacVolunteers and recognize and call out the Volunteers that are making a difference in the community being caught in action on video and in pics using social media.
Volunteers make this community shine, and we will grow this community with volunteers who are committed to the city and have a passion for this city. Volunteers have a stake in what is good about this community and will continue to foster growth. LOVEPontiacVolunteers will grow that volunteer base to do good with public recognition and thanks and keep our city authentic with compassion and pride.
We as a community have the ability to control our own narrative. Such things such as financial downturn, blight, and bad press do not control the destiny of our community. The passion of our volunteers and the organizations and people that foster that should be the beacon of this community.
Such a narrative has happened as you see Downtown Pontiac and its revival. Downtown is more than a street of businesses, but a hub of passion where community and neighborhood have been created by individuals who want to see success for their hometown. What was formerly a Downtown funded with tax base dollars, has become a community funded by volunteer efforts of organizations such as Main Street Pontiac formerly known as the Pontiac Downtown Business Association.
Main Street Pontiac has organized the Pontiac Community Awards recognizing the volunteers in the neighborhoods and downtown for five years with the momentum that has grown year over year. Residents, neighbors, and business owners alike step up to the plate and donate their time or dollars to make improvements happen in places like our parks, our gathering spots, the streets and paths that we go past and travel on, with our children, our elderly and in places where we see beacons that make our place shine.
LOVEPontiacVolunteers starting today by using your phones to take video and pics as you see the volunteers being recognized for their awards tonight. Post those pics and videos to social media using the hashtag #LOVEPontiacVolunteers. Then continue to use that hashtag throughout the year as you witness acts of kindness at community volunteer events to help create public recognition and awareness of the efforts that make our city shine. Take a pic or video throughout the year and post it on social media.
Then on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, we will gather once again, finding all those hashtags over the year, to celebrate as a community and publicly thank those that do amazing things with volunteers in the City of Pontiac.
